Environment

We want to leave a positive footprint on the market
and for our customers.

To ensure that we are successful,
we try to keep our environmental footprint as small as possible.

Our
Motto.

As the Wortmann Group, we have been taking our environmental responsibility seriously for many years and act according to the following guiding principle:

1. Reduce energy consumption.

Back in 2010, we constructed the new building of our modern logistics center in Detmold according to the latest standards. For this, we received an award from the Bundesdeutschen Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management e.V. .

In 2016, all the lighting in our logistics center was converted to LED lighting. In the main and side buildings, this had already been done successively since 2013. Since then, the energy consumption of the lighting has been reduced by 75%.

2. Use of renewable energy.

Since 2015, we have been purchasing green electricity for our location in Detmold via Stadtwerke Detmold, which comes 100% from renewable sources.

At the beginning of 2021, we installed the largest connected photovoltaic rooftop system with self-consumption in the region, with a soccer field-sized area of almost 7,000 sqm. The modules have an output of 1,335.4 kWp. This results in an annual output of 1,179,909 kWh, which corresponds to the average annual electricity consumption of around 300 four-person households. Around 60 percent of the energy generated can be used directly in Detmold in the future. The rest - for example, the electricity that is generated on weekends or holidays and cannot be consumed directly - will be exported to the public power network. By generating the electricity with the help of the PV system, around 250 tons of CO2 can be avoided each year.

3. Compensation.

Where the energy input cannot be reduced or no renewable energy can be used, we create the best possible compensation. In 2016, for example, we switched to climate-neutral transport in parcel freight.

In the period May 2020 - April 2021, we have thereby achieved the following CO2 compensation:

UPS: 2.640,49 tons of CO2

GLS: 377,306 tons of CO2
